Why do some people make reading Scripture so hard? Why does it seem to be such a task, at times? Of course, there are many parts of Scripture that I don't understand, and there are many things of this world that Scripture does not directly address. There are many things we will not understand, and many situations we will not be able to comprehend until we are in the presence of God ourselves. I know this and have many questions. But.... it absolutely floors me when people make simple Scriptures, complicated. God knows our minds: He created them. So, I believe what He ordained to be written in the Bible, He ordained it to be simple enough for us to read it. We have a tendency to complicate things. Just read God's Word. He will reveal His truth to you. Don't overthink it or try to make it fit what you want. Trust Him. He never changes. What He ordained to be written with the first Bible scrolls is the same thing He means for us today.
As a parent, there are certain values I want my children to learn. My husband and I want our children to share our conservative, christian values. We teach these things to them, but we also teach them to refer back to Scripture on everything they are taught. This includes what they are taught by the church, other people (even teachers and respected family members), their schoolwork, their friends, and the things they read, hear and see, and even us (their parents). We would never steer our children wrong on purpose, but we are imperfect humans living in a fallen world- so we will make mistakes and we won't always be right. That is why we always lead our kids back to Scripture. We want them to know that any question they have about something, needs to be tested with Scripture. And if it doesn't line up with God's Word? Than it isn't truth. II Timothy plainly explains the importance of Scripture. And truly, it is so simple and easy to understand. "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work." ~ II Timothy 3:16-17 That's it. It's that simple. Those two verses give us simple and direct purposes for Scripture. That is the reason we have the Bible: to teach us what is true, to make us see what is wrong in our own lives, to correct us when we are wrong, to teach us what is right, and to prepare and equip us to do every good work. Wow! I love this! I am memorizing these Scriptures along with my children so that we are always reminded of why God has given us His Word. What is God teaching you through His Word? How is Scripture changing the way you live your life? What difference is God's Word making in you? I'm praying for each of you! Keep reading God's Word! Joyfully His, Andrea
